Se escriben con v las formas del verbo ir donde aparezca el sonido /b/: voy, vaya, vayamos…; igualmente los pretéritos indefinidos terminados en –uvieron, –uvo, -uve, (detuvieron, anduvo, tuve). Se exceptúan las formas del verbo haber (hubo).

Con esta letra, que no representa sonido alguno, suelen presentarse ciertos errores ortográficos, con algunos verbos que se prestan a confusión; tal es el caso de confundir hecho (del verbo hacer) con echo (del verbo echar); o haber (verbo) y a ver (expresión‚ “ir a ver”), habría (del verbo haber) o abría (del verbo abrir); ha (del verbo haber), a (preposición) y ah (expresión o interjección).
