Los anfibios son un tipo animales vertebrados, en este caso ovíparos y que no incuban sus huevos.
En sus primeras etapas viven en el medio acuático y respiran a través de branquias y cuando se convierten en adultos viven en medios terrestres aunque generalmente en zonas húmedas y respiran a través de la piel, que va desnuda y está húmeda, aunque también pueden hacerlo a través de los pulmones.
Tienen extremidades en forma de patas, cuatro y sus dedos están unidos por membranas.
La temperatura de su cuerpo es variable y depende del medio en el que se encuentre.

Los anfibios sufren una serie de transformaciones desde que nacen hasta que mueren, denominada metamofosis.

  • De sus huevos nacen renacuajos que viven en el agua, son herbívoros, tienen cola, aún no tienen patas y respiran por branquias.
  • Su cola va desapareciendo a la vez que se le van formando las patas; de igual forma, desaparecen las branquias.
  • Una vez las patas se han desarrollado abandonan el agua, pero ya como anfibios adultos, siendo terrestres aunque siempre viviendo en entornos húmedos o cerca del agua.
