Probability Theory

Probability theory, with a long maturity in the history of science, is a branch of mathematics that developed rapidly during the first half of the 20th century, building its analytical foundations on a solid axiomatic body, especially in the fields .

The theory of probability has radiated its influence even in the branches of mathematics itself, as has been the case of the so-called theory of numbers. Currently it is essential for the study, development and improvement of cryptographic methods and algorithms designed to preserve the security of complex computer systems, highly sensitive in public life, such as electronic money in the financial field or digital signature in the legal field.

Games and Probability

Games of chance are games in which the chances of winning or losing do not depend on the skill of the player but on chance.

The prizes are determined by the statistical probability of hitting the chosen combination. The lower the chances of getting the correct combination.

4

The Player

Mainly the skill of the player is useful to calculate the possibilities derived from one or several actions, always in relation to chance; Furthermore, the player must be skilled in reducing the probability of unfavorable outcomes and increasing that of favorable ones through his actions. Winning or losing in these kinds of games depends, to a large extent, on the skill of the players, but the unpredictable component of chance can snatch victory from even the most experienced and skilled player.

Origin

The Sumerians and Assyrians used a bone extracted from the heel of animals called the talus or talus, which they carved so that they could fall into four different positions. Dice games originated in the times of the Roman Empire, although the rules by which they played are hardly known. One of these games, called "hazard", a word that means risk or danger, was introduced in Europe with the Third Crusade. The etymological roots of the term come from the Arabic word "random", which means "given."

a way to better understand probability

For understand this topic, we can refer to the movie 21 blackjack, where it can be shown through a young man how probability is more useful than one thinks in games, in this case it is shown in the film the method used by the players, where they are based on counting the cards that are coming out and calculating at each moment the probabilities on those that remain to come out.

This movie tries to give us a new approach to mathematics, and sometimes when we do not know what to do, to be guided by mathematics.
