Quiz about characteristics of living organisms

by Magdalena Liguori
1

Which of the following characteristics are shared by all plants and animals?

2

When a moth flies towards a source of light, which two of the characteristics of living organisms is it exhibiting?

3

Which of the characteristics of living organisms are represented by this picture?

Explicación

Respiration, excretion and sensitivity are three of the seven characteristics common to all living organisms. Photosynthesis is a process carried out only by plants. Moving the whole body from one place to another is a characteristic of animals only. Feeding (or eating) is a characteristic of animals only.

The moth senses the source of light with its eyes (sensitivity) and responds by flying (movement) towards the light.

Sensitivity is correct because the plant detects the source of light and grows towards it. Growth is correct because the plant gains a permanent increase in size and dry mass. Nutrition is correct because the plant uses the light to produce energy for growth and development. Movement is correct because the plant, or part of the plant, changes position or place.
