Systolic wall stress is the force that myocardial fibers have to overcome in order to affect circumferential shortening. It is proportional to LV size and intracavity pressure and inversely proportional to wall thickness. There are three types of wall stresses operating on the myocardium. These are circumferential, radial, and meridiona
