Explicación

El iniciador del ensayo fue Michel de Montaigne, quien publicó su libro Ensayos en 1580. La pregunta que lo guiaba era: ¿Que sais-je? (¿Qué es lo que sé?)

Los temas pueden ser varios, pueden ser científicos, literarios, filosóficos, históricos, etc.

La argumentación puede estar más o menos desarrollada según el tipo de ensayo, pero siempre está presente como parte de la reflexión personal que caracteriza al género.
