Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. Its location made it an important stop for sailors and traders in history.

The capital of Mauritius is Port Louis. It lies on the northwest coast and was founded by the French in the 18th century as an important harbour for trade and shipping.

Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire is the tallest mountain in Mauritius, standing at 828 meters above sea level. It’s located in the southwest of the island.

The national flower of Mauritius is the Trochetia boutoniana, also called the ‘Boucle d’Oreille.’ It grows naturally only on the slopes of Le Morne Brabant and was declared the national flower in 1992.
