The Arabs were the first sailors who discovered the Island as it was on their route for trade.

In the 15th century, Pedro Mascarenhas a Portuguese sailor sailed in the Indian Ocean for spice trade and named the Mascarene Island.

The British were the first sailors who landed in Mauritius, repaired their ships and found the dodo.

The settlers were killing all the dodo for food.

The Dutch came after the Portuguese in the year 1638.

Francois Leguat was the first settler who stayed in Rodrigues together with his friends in 1691.

They took possession of our island just after the Dutch left in the year 1715.

Pierre Poivre was a French administrator who bought medicinal plants to our country, and he even created the botanical garden.

The British attacked in the south-eastern part of the Island at Grand Port.

They won the battle in the year 1810.
