El modelo biomédico es un enfoque tradicional que ve la enfermedad como un problema exclusivamente biológico, centrado en cambios físicos o funcionales del cuerpo y separando mente y cuerpo. Considera la salud como la ausencia de enfermedad y se basa en diagnósticos y tratamientos médicos objetivos, sin tomar en cuenta factores psicológicos o sociales.
En contraste, el modelo biopsicosocial adopta una visión integral que incluye aspectos biológicos, psicológicos y sociales para entender la salud y la enfermedad. Considera al ser humano como una unidad donde estos factores interactúan y aborda la enfermedad considerando también el contexto emocional, conductual y social, promoviendo un trato más holístico y personalizado.
