Right angles are common in everyday objects like books, doors, and walls. An angle that is greater than 90° but less than 180° is called an obtuse angle. It opens wider than a right angle but is not a straight line. Obtuse angles are common in shapes like obtuse triangles, where one of the three angles is larger than 90°. A straight angle measures exactly 180°. It forms a straight line, meaning the two rays or arms lie in opposite directions. It shows a complete half-turn from one side to the other. An acute angle is an angle that measures less than 90°. It appears narrow or sharp and is smaller than a right angle. Acute angles are found in shapes like acute triangles, where all three angles are less than 90°.

The sum of the interior angles in any triangle is 180°. This means that no matter the type of triangle scalene, isosceles, or equilateral the three angles will always add up to 180 degrees. This rule comes from the properties of parallel lines and alternate angles in geometry.

Complementary angles are two angles whose measures add up to 90°. They don’t have to be next to each other; what matters is that their sum equals 90°. For example, a 30° angle and a 60° angle are complementary.

Linear Pair Two adjacent angles whose non-common sides form a straight line are called a linear pair. The angles in a linear pair are supplementary, meaning they add up to 180°. They share a common vertex and one common arm, while the other arms lie on the same straight line. Vertical Angles Vertical angles are the opposite angles formed when two lines intersect. They are always equal in measure. For example, if two lines cross to form an “X,” the angles opposite each other at the intersection are vertical angles. Explementary Angles Explementary angles are two angles whose measures add up to 360°. They form a full turn or complete revolution when combined. For instance, if one angle measures 110°, its explementary angle measures 250° (since 110° + 250° = 360°). Complementary angles Complementary angles are two angles whose measures add up to 90°. They can be adjacent (sharing a common side) or separate. For example, a 40° angle and a 50° angle are complementary because together they make a right angle.

Equal in measure When two lines are parallel and are cut by a transversal, the corresponding angles are equal. This means each angle in one position on the first line matches an angle in the same position on the second line. For example, if one corresponding angle is 70°, all its corresponding pairs will also be 70°.
