When working with children the staff to child ratio for Birth to 18 months of age is one staff to four children.

When working with 2 1/2 Years to 3 years of age the ratio is one staff to eight children .

When working with children 3 years to 4 years of age the ratio is one staff to ten children.

The ratio when working with 5 years and over is one staff to eighteen children.

The Staff to Child Ratio Chart states that the maximum group size for 4 to 5 year olds is 26 that is two teachers in the room with the group of children.

The staff to Child Ratio Chart states that the maximum group size for 3 to 4 years of age would be 20 children with 2 staff.

The Staff to Child Ratio Chart states the maximum group size for children 18 months to 2 1/2 years of age is 14 children with 2 teachers.

Maximum group size does not apply to field trips, outdoor play areas, and areas of the center reserved exclusively for eating. Staff-to-child ratios shall be maintained in those settings.

Smoking is prohibited on the premises of the center or in a vehicle used to transport children when the children are in care.

The safest and only place an infant can sleep in a child care center is in a crib that meets safety standards.

This section is an important one to reduce the risk of suffocation or sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Infants should always be placed on their back to sleep. Firm mattress, tightly fitting with snug sheet covering, no loose materials or fluffy objects.

Fire drills should be conducted regularly to ensure that the staff and children know how to safely evacuate the building in case of a fire. Tornado drills prepare staff and children for sheltering in place during a tornado or severe weather emergency.

Each level of a child care center mst have at least two exits to ensure safe evacuation in case of an emergency. This includes both doors or other exit routes that are clearly accessible and meet safety requirements.

When 9 or more children are on a field trip there shall be at least 2 child care workers accompanying the children and the staff-to-child ratios in Table DCF 251.055 shall be maintained. At least one of the child care workers shall be a child care teacher.

During naptime, an adjustment in group size and staff to child ratios may be made as follows: One child care worker shall be within sight or sound of each group of sleeping children. Staff to child ratios shall be maintained in the center during naptime. Maximum group size requirements do not apply to napping groups. As children wake, signt and sound supervision and staff-to-child ratiors in Table 251.055 shall be maintained for awake children.
