A reducing agent removes oxygen in a reaction. It gets oxidised because it gains oxygen in the process.

Fe from Fe2O3 (focus on the reactant substances only, not the products) is the oxidizing agent. It gets reduced because it loses oxygen in the process.

Rusting of iron: 4Fe + 3O2 + 6H2O→ 4Fe(OH)3 is an example of oxidation reaction when iron (Fe from the reactant) is oxidized / is gained oxygen.

Mg gets oxidised because it gains oxygen from CuO. CuO is the oxidizing agent because it provides oxygen (focus on the reactants only). CuO gets reduced because it loses its oxygen to become Cu.
