Good digital citizens are aware that private information if posted online can fall into the hands of strangers. This can make people vulnerable to cyberbullying, scams and unwanted contact (Mahmoudi-Dehaki and Nasr-Esfahani, 2025). Using privacy settings and strong passwords on various websites can protect you from have your private information leaked online (Mahmoudi-Dehaki and Nasr-Esfahani, 2025).

Digital citizenship helps shape they way we interact online, it also provides us with ways to identify risks and ways to solve problems (Rahman, 2025). Living in a digital world gives us opportunities to interact with different cultures and perspectives but also has risk such as dealing with cyberbullying and people who want to harm us, at's why it is important to have digit citizenship skills to help us recognise risks and make safer choices online (Rahman, 2025).

Telling a trusted adult is the best thing to do so you're able to get the right support. Around the world students are learning how interact safely in the digital world, organisations such as UNESCO are partnering with governments to support students learning digital citizenship education in different countries (Grizzle et al., 2021). It is important to know you are responsible for your actions and you're able to make a positive difference online (Vershon, 2024). As a digital citizen you have rights and responsibilities when comes to online safety and privacy (Vershon, 2024).

Plagiarism involves using someone else's work and not crediting them. This includes A.I. and not acknowledging the sources. Understanding this will make you a responsible and fair Internet user (Bombardelli, 2021). Good digital citizens are lifelong learners who are able to adapt to changing technologies and stay up to date with fair use and copyright laws (Chadha and Shukla, 2025).

To ensure fair use you must always reference your sources of information, this protects other peoples' rights. Even using generated A.I. could impact your work and create unfairness against other people who did not use A.I. content (Chadha and Shukla, 2025).
