الجناس يربط صوتياً كلمتين من خلال تكرر الأصوات مع اختلاف المعنى.

النوعان الأساسيان هما الجناس التام (التكرار الكامل للحروف) والجناس الناقص (إختلاف بسيط في بعض الحروف).

الجناس التام يتطلب تطابقاً صوتياً وحروفياً كاملاً بين الكلمتين مع اختلاف المعنى.

الجناس الناقص يختلف في جزء من الحروف، مع تشابه غالب في الأصوات.

الجناس يربط كلمتين في جملة أو بيت، بينما القافية تتعلق بنهاية الأسطر أو الأبيات.

مثال الجناس التام هو تكرار الحروف نفسها في كلمتين مرتبطين مع اختلاف المعنى.

الجنّاس صوتي؛ الطباق يتعلق بتضاد المعنى بين الألفاظ.

الجلوس والجلصة تحتوي تقريباً على تكرار صوتي مشابه في الكلمات.

الناقص يميل إلى تشابه صوتي جزئي مع اختلافٍ بسيط.

الجناس يعني تكرار الصوت في كلمتين مع اختلاف المعنى.
