Una ecuación cuadrática tiene grado 2, con término x^2 presente.

Se usa para resolver ax^2+bx+c=0 cuando a≠0.

D>0 dos soluciones reales, D=0 una real doble, D<0 soluciones complejas.

La cuadrática completa tiene todos los tres términos ax^2+bx+c.

Con c=0 se obtiene ax^2+bx=0, sin término independiente.

La clasificación varía; comúnmente se refiere a pares incompletos con alguno de los términos faltantes.
