Explicación

El genio maligno hace que Descartes dude de que los sentidos sean completamente seguros. Podríamos estar siendo engañados sobre todo lo que vemos, oímos o sentimos, así que el conocimiento sensible deja de ser totalmente confiable.

Descartes introduce al genio maligno para llevar la duda al máximo, cuestionando incluso lo que parece más evidente. Así busca descubrir una verdad absolutamente segura que resista cualquier engaño.

Aunque el genio maligno engañe sobre todo, Descartes descubre que no puede dudar de que está pensando. Y si piensa, entonces existe. Por eso la primera certeza es la existencia del yo que piensa.

Poner en duda todo lo que pudiera ser falso para descubrir una verdad completamente segura, por ello la duda metódica funciona como una herramienta para llegar a una base firme del conocimiento.

El conocimiento más seguro es el que se presenta de manera clara y distinta, ya que puede resistir la duda y el posible engaño del genio maligno.
