Present continuous becomes was/were + verb-ing; time reference shifts to that night.

Use was/were + verb-ing and shift future reference to the following week.

Future reference shifts to the following day; use was starting.

Time can stay; but present becomes past with was/were + verb-ing.

Present continuous becomes was/were + verb-ing; adjust pronoun as needed.

Now → at that moment; use was/were + verb-ing.

Today → that day; use was finishing.

Ask form becomes asked + if/whether + past tense.
