Which of the following is the primary function of the urinary system?

2

Where are the kidneys anatomically located in the human body?

3

Does the nephron function as the primary blood filtration component (renal corpuscle)?

4

Choose the correct order of filtered blood flow out of the glomerulus according to the renal capillary system:

5

Which substance DOES NOT pass through the glomerular filtration membrane in a healthy kidney?

6

Which part of the nephron is the primary site (primary site) for the reabsorption of nutrients such as glucose and amino acids?

7

The thin descending Loop of Henle has physiological characteristics that are:

8

Among the following substances, which is actively secreted from the peritubular capillaries into the nephron if the blood pH is found to be decreased (acidic)?

9

When blood volume increases, how do the hormones ADH and ANH respond?

10

The micturition reflex begins to be triggered through nerve impulses when the bladder is filled with a volume of urine of:

Filtering blood and controlling osmolality are the primary functions. The production of renin, EPO, and the metabolism of vitamin D are secondary functions

The kidneys are located in the posterior abdominal wall and are behind the peritoneum (retroperitoneal).

Renal corpuscle consists of Bowman's Capsule and glomerulus which function as the site of initial blood filtration.

Blood enters through the afferent arteriole, is filtered in the glomerulus, and exits through the efferent arteriole to the peritubular capillaries/vasa recta.

The filtering membrane prevents red blood cells and large proteins from leaking out into the urine.

The PCT is the primary site of reabsorption of nutrients (such as glucose and amino acids) by active transport.

The thin descending loop is only permeable to water, but less permeable to solutes.

When the blood pH is acidic (decreases), the kidneys will secrete hydrogen ions (H+) into the urine to be excreted to restabilize the body's pH.

ADH levels decrease (less water absorption) and ANH levels increase (less Na+ absorption) so that more water is excreted to lower blood pressure.

When urine reaches 200ml - 400ml, the bladder wall stretches and sends a signal to the micturition center in the pons to trigger the urge to urinate.
