Teks membahas sejarah penemuan tuatara, penelitian para ilmuwan tentang tuatara, ancaman terhadap kelangsungan hidupnya, dan upaya konservasinya. Jadi tujuan utama teks adalah menjelaskan sejarah dan pelestarian tuatara.

Di paragraf pertama disebutin kalau tuatara itu ikon nasional Selandia Baru dan masyarakatnya mendukung upaya konservasi agar hewan ini tetap ada untuk generasi mendatang.
