About this activity
A neutralization reaction is a chemical reaction in which an acid reacts with a base to form salt and water. During this reaction, the acidic and basic properties cancel each other, making the solution neutral.
General Equation:
Acid + Base → Salt + Water
Example:
Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) + Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) → Sodium Chloride (NaCl) + Water (H₂O)
Everyday Uses of Neutralization:
Indigestion: Antacids neutralize excess acid in the stomach.
Ant Sting: Baking soda can be applied to neutralize the acid injected by ants.
Soil Treatment: Farmers add lime to acidic soil to improve crop growth.
Factory Waste: Neutralization helps treat acidic or basic industrial waste before disposal.
