Explicación

El VIH ataca el sistema inmune, a diferencia de otros virus más comunes.

Las transmisiones habituales son relaciones sexuales sin protección, uso compartido de agujas, sangre y de madre a hijo durante el parto o lactancia.

Se detectan anticuerpos y/o antígenos virales para confirmar la infección.

El SIDA es la etapa avanzada de la infección por VIH cuando el sistema inmune está muy debilitado.

La TARV reduce la carga viral y mantiene la salud.

La carga viral indica cuánta replicación viral hay.

El VIH no se transmite por contacto casual ni por saliva/sudor.

La combinación de TARV en la pareja positiva y el uso de preservativos es muy eficaz.

La TARV durante el embarazo y manejo del parto reducen la transmisión vertical.

Muchas personas no presentan síntomas durante años pero pueden transmitir.
