Commands with 'told' + object + to-infinitive.

Modals of obligation often become 'had to' in reported speech.

Cannot becomes couldn't; pronouns reflect the speaker.

Demonstratives shift to that/these depending on context; 'This' becomes 'that'.

Past perfect for actions completed before reporting moment; 'yesterday' -> 'the day before'.
