Explicación

"Cheap" significa barato, que es el antónimo de expensive (caro). En el examen Saber 11 es muy común encontrar preguntas sobre antónimos, por lo que ampliar tu vocabulario te ayudará a comprender mejor los textos.

"Begin" y "Start" tienen el mismo significado: comenzar. El ICFES evalúa frecuentemente sinónimos porque un mismo concepto puede aparecer expresado con diferentes palabras.

"Hungry" significa tener hambre, por lo tanto necesitas food (comida). En muchas preguntas del ICFES la respuesta depende de comprender el contexto más que de traducir palabra por palabra.

Después del verbo "to be" usamos un sustantivo para indicar una profesión. Teacher = profesor.

Una library es el lugar donde puedes pedir libros prestados. Este tipo de vocabulario aparece frecuentemente en avisos, anuncios y textos cortos del Saber 11.

Early = temprano Late = tarde Reconocer antónimos facilita identificar relaciones dentro de los textos.

Cuando el sujeto es he, she o it, el verbo en presente simple normalmente termina en -s-es o ies. She goes He studies It rains

La palabra yesterday indica pasado. Por eso el verbo debe ir en pasado simple. Play → Played

La palabra Look! indica que la acción ocurre en este momento. Por eso usamos el presente continuo. Be + Verb + ing

Since se usa para indicar el momento en que comenzó una acción. Since 2019 Since Monday Since January

Many students es plural. Por eso usamos: There are

"So" expresa consecuencia. Estudié mucho, por eso aprobé.

Encontraste información explícita en el texto. Esta habilidad corresponde a la lectura literal. Cuando la pregunta comienza con Where, busca nombres de lugares dentro del texto.

"Rides his bike" significa que va en bicicleta. No siempre es necesario traducir todo el texto; basta con identificar la información relevante. Ride a bike Drive a car Walk Take the bus Cada expresión indica un medio de transporte diferente.

Identificaste información específica dentro del texto. - Favorite subject - likes - enjoys Estas expresiones suelen indicar preferencias.

Cuando una pregunta comienza con Why, busca la explicación o causa en el texto, normalmente se responde con because...

La expresión On weekends indica una rutina. Busca expresiones de tiempo. Every day Usually On weekends Always Estas palabras ayudan a localizar la información correcta.

La idea principal resume el tema general del texto, no un detalle específico. Recuerda. La idea principal responde a la pregunta: ¿De qué trata principalmente el texto? No debe confundirse con un dato aislado.

No siempre es necesario conocer todas las palabras. Utiliza el contexto para inferir significados desconocidos. Esta es una de las habilidades más evaluadas por el ICFES.

Observa el texto en conjunto. Antes de elegir una respuesta, pregúntate: ¿Cuál es el tema que une todas las ideas del texto? Esa estrategia te ayudará a identificar el propósito general y la idea principal con mayor precisión.
