Basketball is played by two teams of five players each, per the lesson's rules.

James Naismith, a Canadian-American teacher, invented basketball in 1891.

The lesson notes the hoop is mounted at 10 meters high.

The rule allows throwing in any direction with one hand.

A player cannot run with the ball; it must be thrown from the spot caught.

A goal counts when the ball is thrown into the basket and stays there, provided defenders don’t disturb it.

Three consecutive fouls by a side count as a goal for the opponents.

When out of bounds, the throw-in must be made and the thrower has five seconds.

The referee is the judge of the ball in play, in bounds, and keeps time.

The very first ball used was a soccer ball before true basketballs were made.
