On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord’s Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight.

Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore. Your hands are the hands of murderers, and your fingers are filthy with sin. Your lips are full of lies, and your mouth spews corruption. No one cares about being fair and honest. The people’s lawsuits are based on lies. They conceive evil deeds and then give birth to sin.

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly, So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths.

Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.

Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, where he found several believers. “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” “Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked. They replied, “The baptism of John.” Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.

And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.

We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will.

Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son.

Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.

Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.

A church leader desires an honorable position. He must be a man whose life is above reproach, be faithful to his wife, exercise self-control, live wisely, have a good reputation, enjoy having guests in his home, be able to teach, not be a heavy drinker or be violent, be gentle, not quarrelsome, love money, manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. A man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church? A church leader must not be a new believer.
