A registered sports nutritionist (SENR & RNutr) is offered a £2,000 sponsorship by a batch-tested protein brand to post an Instagram reel stating: "This protein powder promotes muscle repair and reduces post-match inflammation." Which statement is correct under the codes?

2

An athlete shows you a tub of pre-workout displaying a third-party testing logo. Under the BDA Supplement Position Statement, what is your mandatory procedural action?

3

You advise a professional cyclist on a batch-tested recovery product and retain the batch certificate and consultation notes. How long must you and the athlete retain these records, and why?

4

A new graduate joins your clinic after completing an accredited MSc and registering with the AfN. On their clinic website and LinkedIn bio, they list their title as: "Jane Doe, ANutr (Sports Nutritionist)." Does this comply with UKVRN Standards?

Feedback

Under the SENR Code of Professional Conduct, registrants must never promote or sell supplements or proprietary products in the sporting world for personal financial gain. Furthermore, UKVRN standards strictly prohibit health claims in commercial communications affiliated with registrants (health claims constitute product endorsement, whereas only factual nutrition claims are permitted).

Logos alone do not guarantee compliance. Supplement companies may not test every batch or flavour variant, requiring practitioners and athletes to match the container's batch number directly against testing database registers. Batch testing is a risk-minimisation programme, not a 100% guarantee.

Both SENr guidelines and the BDA Position Statement specify that records of supplement advice, discussions, and batch certificates should be stored for at least 10 years because WADA/UKAD can conduct retrospective testing on biological samples for up to a decade.

UKVRN standards explicitly state that Registered Associate Nutritionists must not indicate a specialism (e.g., ANutr (Public Health) or ANutr (Sports) is invalid). Only full Registered Nutritionists (RNutr) with verified competency can display an assessed specialism in brackets.
