He studied medicine at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and graduated in 1959.

He obtained his Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 1965.

His work supported the development of Neurolab, a NASA mission studying nervous systems in microgravity.

He has worked with magnetoencephalography to observe brain electrical activity.
