جمع دو عدد با علامت مخالف نتیجه مثبت است اما با اختلافی برابر است که در اینجا 7-5=2.

جا به جایی علامت نشان می‌دهد که عدد مثبت با عدد منفی برابر با اختلاف است.

هر دو عدد منفی هستند پس نتیجه نیز منفی و جمع قدر مطلق آنهاست.

اضافه کردن صفر مقدار عدد را تغییر نمی‌دهد.

دو عدد مخالف با هم جمع می‌شوند و نتیجه صفر است.

اگر عدد بزرگتر مثبت باشد، نتیجه برابر با تفاضل قدر مطلق است.

جمع منفی با مثبت با تفاضل قدر مطلق و علامت عدد با بزرگتر مطابقت دارد.

تفاضل قدر مطلق بین 8 و 3 برابر 5 است و علامت منفی است.

دو عدد برابر با علامت مخالف جمع می‌شوند و نتیجه صفر است.

هر دو عدد منفی است، جمع آنها نیز منفی و برابر با مجموع قدر مطلق است.
