Dans cet extrait issu du 'Clair de Lune' de Claude Debussy, le compositeur utilise la nuance pianissimo pour donner l'impression de calme et d'apaisement propices à la nuit

Dans 'Peer Gynt', Edgar Grieg utilise le crescendo pour donner du relief à la mélodie et une impression de mouvement

Dans cet extrait du Requiem de Mozart, les musiciens et chanteurs sont tous en fortissimo pour accentuer le caractère tempétueux, infernal et tragique de la mort

La mélodie s'estompe petit à petit, en decrescendo (on peut également employer le terme diminuendo)
