DEFINITION

A preposition of place is a preposition which is used to refer to place where something or someone is located.

IN

Preposition which is used to discuss an enclosed space and  to refer to: 

  • Room, building, street, town, country
  • Book, paper etc.
  • Car, taxi
  • Picture, world

ON

A preposition used to refer to something is in a position that is physically touching, covering or attached to something.        
  • Attached         
  • For a place with a river          
  • Being on a surface          
  • For a certain side (left, right)          
  • For a floor in a house           
  • For public transport
