How to use Educaplay from Gemini
You can also use Educaplay from ChatGPT and Claude. For the overview, read Create Educaplay games from ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude.
What you can do
In Gemini, Educaplay is added as a custom app, using the address of its server. Once connected, you ask Gemini for the game in the conversation where you plan your lesson and it builds it in your Educaplay account: it writes the questions, adds images, generates the audio for dictations and dialogues, attaches a YouTube video to a Video Quiz, classifies it and, when you ask, publishes it. It works for 20 of the 21 game types (every one except the Map Quiz) and also for reviewing and publishing games you already had.
Nothing is published until you say so. The games stay under My games and you share them as always. Your students don't need Gemini.
Requirements
- An Educaplay account (your Google, Microsoft or ClassLink account works).
- A personal Google account. Google limits custom apps to personal accounts (not work or school accounts), users aged 18 or over, the US and English, with Gemini activity turned on. The button to add them only appears with the Gemini interface in English.
- The connection is made from the web. Afterwards it also works in the Gemini mobile app.
- Educaplay plans: all of them.
How to connect it
- Open Gemini's connectors page (in the app: Customize → Connectors). If you don't see the + Custom button, switch the interface to English.
- Click + Custom. "Connect to an MCP server" opens.
- Paste
https://api.educaplay.com/v1/agent/mcp/into "MCP Server URL" and click Next. - Gemini shows you the Google account it will use and a security notice. Tick "I understand and accept the security and privacy risks of connecting this custom app" and click Connect.
- Sign in to Educaplay and click Authorize. The authorization lasts one year; you don't repeat it in every conversation.
- Educaplay appears under Connected Apps, in "Custom apps".
How to create your first game
Type @Educaplay at the start of the message (it shows up in the list when you type "@") and then your request. For example: "@Educaplay create a 5-word crossword about the water cycle for 10-year-olds. Don't publish it."
Gemini asks for permission before each tool ("Allow Gemini to use Create activity?"), with Don't allow, Allow once and Always allow. When it finishes, it confirms that the game is saved in your account. Gemini doesn't usually show the game's link: ask for it or open it from My games.
What else you can ask for
- "@Educaplay turn this text into a 10-question quiz."
- "@Educaplay add an image to each word of my water cycle crossword."
- "@Educaplay publish my water cycle crossword."
- "@Educaplay show me my latest games."
Gemini writes the text of the game. Classifying the game or describing images uses the Ray budget of your plan, and audio uses the plan's audio quota, as in the editor.
What you still do on the website
Uploading your own files, deleting and duplicating games, organizing folders and creating Map Quizzes: from My games and the editor, as before.
How to disconnect it
In Gemini, Connected Apps → Custom apps → Educaplay, open the menu (⋯) and remove it; you can also delete the link from your Google Account. To cut off access from Educaplay, in your profile settings, under Application tokens, click Revoke on the Gemini connection.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my school Google account?
No. Google only allows custom apps on personal Google accounts.
What if I'm not in the US?
Google limits it to the US. In our tests from Spain, with a personal account and the interface in English, the "+ Custom" button appears and the connection works, but it is Google who decides where it is available.
Why does it ask for permission at every step?
That is how Gemini works with custom apps. Choose "Always allow" for the tools you use often.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, once connected from the web.
Do my students have to use Gemini?
No. They play by link, from Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams or your platform, with no Gemini account.
What can Gemini do in my account?
What you can do from the website: create, edit and publish games and check your reports. You can revoke it at any time from Application tokens.
